How often have you marvelled at the beauty of nature and wished you could create an immediate impression of what you see? Painting the landscape can feel overwhelming and the possibilities endless! Whether you prefer the garden or the bush, with my guidance you will gain confidence and learn skills to confidently sketch and paint in the landscape. We will work quickly to capture the changing effects of light and movement, creating several small sketches in paint, for you to use as visual notes for more finished paintings.

You will learn how to:

•    Connect with the landscape using mindful attention and gestural sketches

•    Use a viewfinder and compositional sketches

•    Handle your materials with ease and proficiency

•    Create drawn and painted sketches of your impressions

•    Understand the value and limits of photography

•    Confidently select and omit parts of what you see to create an effective composition

•    Use the principles of design, such as focal point, balance, rhythm, etc.

•    Understand how to develop your work at home

We will work directly from nature, in the grounds of my studio in Blaxland and the bush beyond and I will share my expertise and passion with you. Whether you are starting out or an experienced painter, you will definitely develop your ability to create successful pictures inspired by nature. You will also connect with like-minded and interesting people.
